Imaging & Illumination

A manufactruer for a high speed pick and place machine approaced Inov to help them upgrade their state of the art machines in order to double the production rate at which the automated machine could place suface mount electronic components onto cirucut boards used in hard drives and cell phones. They wanted to replace a 3 headed camera with one that had seven heads, and needed a new lens design for the cameras, as well as a challenging custom illumination system to light a wide variety of irregular shaped components. We designed a custom lens and illumination system that surpassed their specifcations. Allowing their machine to go from placing 14,000 surface mount components per hour to 30,000 components per hour.
